A Message from the Board of Trustees of the Provident Loan Society

Provident President and CEO John Higney has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2025. The trustees of Provident Loan expressed their great gratitude to John for his 51 years of devoted service to the Society: “While Provident has a long tradition of officers who have served for many decades, John Higney’s devoted service has been exceptional in covering almost every job at Provident. The Society has been extremely fortunate to have his able assistance for more than half a century.”

John began as a trainee in November 1974, and progressed through the ranks, initially at the Times Square office, where he was promoted to Cashier and then to Vaultman. He tested into the Appraiser-in-Training (AIT) program, and soon became a Full Appraiser. During those years he served as a Relieving Manager and worked at many Provident offices, including Fordham, Lenox Hill, East 60th St., and East 43rd St. He learned the auction business at Park Avenue later in the 1980s, and after the tragic death of Provident’s then-head of the Auction Sales Department early in the AIDS crisis, John was promoted to Head of Auction Sales. In 1999 he became an officer of the Society when he was appointed Assistant Secretary, and in 2017 he was named President and CEO.

Ted Pardoe, Co-Chair of the Provident Board, spoke for the trustees in thanking John for his faithful stewardship, and added “we are particularly pleased that John has agreed to continue providing advice, as President Emeritus, to Provident, as needed in the new year.”

Effective January 1, 2026, Kevin King will become President and CEO in addition to his current position as CFO, and Anthony LoRe, currently Vice President/Secretary, will become Chief Operating Officer. Together with Renan Sucena, Marcos Ramos, and Mahmuda Rahman, Kevin and Anthony form the officer team for Provident, and the Board looks forward to working with them in their leadership roles in 2026 and beyond.
